For my project I researched the fashion of Rome. I chose this because my group wanted to make a video of a Pompeian coming to EGHS and fashion seemed like an important aspect to research. Similar to today, Roman style differed between the numerous social classes. (Book in class) The tunic that common people and slaves wore were made from a rough, dark material. The tunics worn by wealthier people were white wool or linen. Senators and other important people wore tunics with a colored pattern. For example, a
red strip. They also had special tunics for those in the military which were shorter with lots of colors.

Through out the roman culture, men hairstyles changed. At first, long hair and long beards were very popular. Then short hair and clean shaved faces were popular. Eventually, the long beards and hair came back. If a man were to go bald then they would wear a wig.
Jewelry was also common. They only jewelry wore by men however were
rings. For this project my group made a video. The video was about a person from ancient Rome time traveling to the future and appearing at eghs.
The person was dressed in a toga and experienced all the modern day elements on the topics that each of my group members researched. From what I can remember, the actor playing the Roman, experienced modern day food in contrast with food in ancient food. He also experienced, art and clothing.
If Pompeii was in a different class, like a colder place. would they still where tunic's or dress properly for the cold?
ReplyDeletei think it is very interesting how the fashion changed over time. I also like how in the video the actor experiences the different type of fashion and how his toga is nothing like fashion today. good job.
ReplyDeleteWas there different fashions for different times of the year? Also could social class be determined by the clothing people wore?
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see how fashion has evolved and changed for example, how men were only allowed to wear a ring.
