Latin Biography on Religion

For an everyday Latin citizen Religion and worshiping was very important to them. In every house there would be a small room were the people of the house would worship their gods and ancestors. People took pride in their heritage, they worshiped them for their decisions and thanking them that they created them. They also worshiped their gods, who were Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Helios. There are a lot more gods in the Latin religion but these are the big names. Each of these gods have a power. Zeus was the king of gods, Poseidon god of the sea, Hades god of the underworld and Helios god of the sun.

They would pray for these gods go get something in return. like if a farmer wanted a good growing season we would pray to the Helios. Most religious Latin citizens would sometimes make sacrifices for their gods to show that they wanted something and the sacrifice was a gift to the god. These gods also had stories behind them, these story were the mythology. stories of the gods doing something great or evil to defend or attack the Greeks. For people today that are religious they go to a church or something where they worship. Back in ancient Greece there were also a place where they would worship their god and also have a group discussion unrelated to the gods. Votive deposits would be left at the altar, such as food, drinks, as well as precious objects. Sometimes animal sacrifices would be performed here, with most of the flesh eaten, and the offal burnt as an offering to the gods. Religion is one of the things we have in common with the Greek citizens, not the worshiping part but paying tribute and gratitude to the god

  1. When you talked about a place where people could go to worship their gods, were you talking about their family altar or some sort of church? Also, with the animal sacrifices, were these official ceremonies performed by some sort of priest, or something else?

  2. When people prayed for something, did any of them really get it? If not, did they get discouraged to pray and sacrifice animals because their prayers were not reached to the gods?

  3. It reminds me a lot of today, because when people try to figure things out, the go and pray to their respected gods. Back then, there were multiple gods, so the people went and prayed to whatever one, depending on the problem. The praying carries overtime, and it shows that the Latins started trends. Whould they pray everyday?

  4. I thought this was very nicely researched and I like how you used visuals, but I almost feel as if there are too many. I also don't see what your product is.
